Protection of the environment
Panguaneta works with a tree species that is, first of all, a cornerstone of the river natural habitat. Actually, besides enhancing the landscape, poplar considerably improves several ecosystem parameters: from air and water quality to the increase in biodiversity and the control of erosion and soil desertification. Poplar is also a fully renewable source of energy; its environmental balance is highly positive, its cycle is a precious natural resource, guaranteed by one of its most extraordinary physical characteristics: its rapid growth, absolutely constant and with a high-performance.
Vital benefit
Poplar is characterized by an excellent capacity to purify the air: it absorbs between 70 and 140 litres of carbon dioxide per hour and releases the same quantity of oxygen. The carbon sink function does not stop in the field but continues also after cutting. The poplar capacity to distil subsoil water is quite remarkable too, with the benefit of releasing pure water particles through transpiration. Its roots facilitate the microbial soil denitrification activity - an important characteristic for agriculture - and prevent water euthrophication, with positive effects for the habitat and biodiversity. In short, using poplar veneers instead of other tree species and increasing poplar plantation areas exponentially increase the benefits for the environment.
