Poplar in defence of the environment: it purifies the air, distils water and gives high quality wood

Poplar is cool...

because it is good for the environmentBecause it is synonymous with protection of the environment, intended as improvement of air and water quality, increase in the biodiversity of natural habitats and a renewable and non climate-changing source of energy.

Because it means sustainable economic development and employment recovery for the whole supply chain involved, from the agroforest system producing the raw material to processing and transforming realities. And also because, if cultivated according to the traditional rotations of 10-12 years, it gives top quality wood, with high performance physical and mechanical characteristics suitable for the most varied application fields. With plywood production as the pride of it.

... because it is good for the environment

because it is good for the environmentAn extraordinary material with a thousand potentialities, directly from nature.

  • AIR
    Like all rapidly growing species, poplar has a remarkable capacity to purify the air, by absorbing from the atmosphere approximately 70-140 litres of carbon dioxide per hour and releasing the same quantity of oxygen. The carbon sink function is carried out also once wood has been converted into finished products
  • WATER
    Poplar is able to distil water, which is absorbed from soil and then released pure in the atmosphere through transpiration. Moreover, poplar is used to create buffer areas in agricultural lands near waterways, in order to favour the absorption of nitrates and prevent water euthrophication.
  • SOIL AND LANDSCAPE
    Another “environmental” merit of poplar is the containment of erosive phenomena and soil desertification, the increase in the biodiversity of natural habitats and the undeniable enhancement of the landscape.

... because it is profitable for agriculture

poplar is profitable for agricultureSustainable economic development, productive differentiation and, therefore, integration of business income.

Poplar-growing generates new economic and employment opportunities for farms. Therefore, it represents a choice of high entrepreneurial value.

  • Poplars grow quickly;
  • need less water than other cultivations, for example maize;
  • adapt well to different pedoclimatic contexts;
  • can stand diseases and drought;
  • develop without difficulty in intercropping with other species;
  • produce quality wood ideal for the processing industry;
  • produce biofuel for energy;
  • represent the most advanced type of arboriculture for wood production.

... because it is an excellent material for the processing industry, starting from plywoods

poplar is an excellent material for the processing industry, starting from plywoodsIf raw materials are of exceptional quality, products are the same. Moreover, if the raw material is suitable for the most varied uses, we are talking about wood derived from poplars cultivated according to the traditional cultivation module.

Nowadays, also thanks to the selection of genetically superior clones and the development of processing techniques aimed at exploiting its “natural” strong points, poplar wood stands out as the pillar of the plywood sector, for which it represents an absolutely excellent raw material. But it plays an important role also for the sectors of furnishings, great value furniture and paper. It is a homogeneous, light, multipurpose, easily workable wood, with a good resistance to loads, a property that makes it extremely efficient if used as a structural element as an alternative to other materials.

... and because it is a high performance renewable source of energy

Poplar means renewable energy. It certainly falls within the tree species aimed at a higher performance, because it optimizes more than other ones the productive yield of biomasses used to produce thermal and electric energy. From both a quantitative and qualitative point of view.
