Panguaneta achieves ISCC EU certification for renewable fuels used in energy generation

The ISCC EU certification confirms Panguaneta’s compliance with stringent European sustainability and carbon-reduction requirements for renewable fuels used in energy generation.

This milestone further strengthens Panguaneta’s tangible commitment to tackling climate change, in full alignment with the European Green Deal, which sets the objective of climate neutrality by 2050 and reduction of at least a 55% in greenhouse gas emissions compared to 1990 levels by 2030.

Renewable energy plays a key role in reaching these targets, while also contributing to biodiversity safeguard and to reducing air, water and soil pollution. Within this framework, ISCC EU is a certification scheme recognised by the European Commission for sustainable fuels, based on the sustainability and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission-reduction criteria defined by the Renewable Energy Directive (RED III). The certification ensures compliance with traceability requirements across the biofuel supply chain, as well as with European provisions prohibiting the use of raw materials sourced from deforested areas.

The ISCC scheme also certifies the compliance with the following principles:

  1. Protection of Land with High Biodiversity Value or High Carbon Stock
  2. Environmentally Responsible Production to Protect Soil, Water and Air
  3. Safe Working Conditions
  4. Compliance with Human and Labour Rights and Responsible Community Relations
  5. Compliance with Land Rights, Laws and International Treaties
  6. Good Management Practices and Continuous Improvement

The certification confirms the compliance with the European regulations for both the virgin wood chips supplied by Panguaneta as an energy resource and the residues generated during the plywood manufacturing process, which are recovered and used to supply the company’s biomass-fuelled thermal power plant.

This achievement represents a significant milestone in our sustainability and decarbonisation journey. It drives us to keep raising our standards, pursue further progress, and reaffirm our commitment to contributing to a healthier planet for all.
